Aluminum vises, a 48-inch rail, and a microphone that hears CPM

The bay is a hangar work cell, not a showroom. Warning-yellow tape on the floor, a brushed-aluminum jaw, and a scope that draws the tick. If you came looking for mill-brick or a farmhouse fitting parlor, you are on the wrong street.

Clamp geometry

Every iron sits the same way: 5.5 inches of grip in the vise, butt square to the rail, head hanging. We do not tick on a cart, a folding table, or a tailgate. A change in clamp height of even a few millimeters moves the cycles per minute enough to fake a “soft” 6-iron. The rail is scribed. The jaw faces are faced. If a tech moves the stop, the morning master bar will catch it.

The microphone hangs on a boom, not on the vise body. Vibration from the jaw itself is a lie we learned the hard way in 2014, when a loose mount was adding about four CPM of mechanical noise to every short iron.

Temperature and dry air

This building does not pretend to be a climate chamber. We run the suite cool in summer and we do not blast heat onto the rail in January. Graphite in particular will read quicker after a week of furnace-dry air. That is why a recert in February gets a humidity note next to the number, and why we will not chase a two-CPM “problem” that is just the room.

If you stored clubs in a car trunk on a 20-degree morning, tell us. We will let them sit against the rail until the heads are no longer cold to the touch. A frozen hoop is not a frequency.

What you will see

No range bay. No launch-monitor theater.

Players sometimes walk in expecting a hitting stall. The clamp bay does not have one. Ball flight is a later conversation, usually with whoever coaches you. Our job ends when the stair is written and, if you asked for it, when a tube has been swapped or a tip has been recut so the neighbor delta sits inside the hangar tolerance.

You can watch every tick. The scope is loud on purpose. If a club rings dirty — a rattle, a loose ferrule, a head that is not fully seated — we stop and fix the hardware before we write a number that would only describe a broken assembly.
